At your very doorstep when staying at the Inn, lovely Morro Bay Golf Course is one of several San Luis Obispo County recreation facilities. A golf game is not the only attraction here. The short drive from the golf course up to the Black Hill view area is a major photo op, and for spectacular 360-degree views, take the 15-minute walk up to the top of Black Hill.

Dairy Creek Golf Course is the newest of the three courses operated by the County of San Luis Obispo. With dramatic elevation changes, rocky arroyos, and forced carries over water, it offers a true test of golf, without disturbing the natural habitats and beauty of the land. Built along rolling hills, the par 71 course offers enchanting views of the surrounding El Chorro valley and majestic Hollister Peak. From Morro Bay, take Highway 1 south towards San Luis Obispo. Then turn left off of Highway 1 at the first traffic light you reach. The course is opposite Cuesta College.

Avila Beach

Avila Beach Golf Course is located three miles off Highway 101 between San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach. Nestled in the surrounding hills and on the bay, the resort includes a par 71, 6500-yard championship course. The front nine is situated within oak-lined valleys. The back nine traverses a tidal estuary.

Facilities include restaurant, pro shop, pro instruction, golf packages. While in the area, check out the town of Avila Beach and its quaint shops. A visit to the pier is a must, and Port San Luis serves fresh fish (dinner only).

From the Inn at Morro Bay, take Hwy 1 South into San Luis Obispo, 11 miles, and US 101 South for seven miles. Take the Avila Beach exit off Highway 101, turn left and follow posted road signs to the Resort, 3 miles.

Cypress Ridge, an Audubon Signature Sanctuary, is managed with emphasis on habitat enhancement, wildlife conservation, integrated pest management, and efficiency of water, waste and energy use.

Directions: from Morro Bay, take Hwy 1 South toward San Luis Obispo, 11 miles, and US 101 South toward Arroyo Grande, 16 miles. Exit Hwy 101 at Halcyon Road in Arroyo Grande. Go straight at the off ramp onto Halcyon. Go through town and turn left at Hwy 1. Make an immediate right back onto Halcyon. Go straight at the stop sign at the top of the hill. Continue straight past the next stop sign. Make the first right at Cypress Ridge Parkway. Follow into parking lot and pro shop on the right.

Laguna Lake

Laguna Lake is San Luis Obispo’s municipal, nine-hole executive length course. It offers a driving range, club and hand cart rentals and lessons from its PGA teaching professional.

The course is open daily from 7:00 a.m. until dusk. Tee time reservations are accepted one day in advance by dialing (805) 781-7309.

To get there from the Inn at Morro Bay, head northeast on State Park Road toward Park View Drive. Turn right on So. Bay Boulevard and left on Los Osos Valley Road. Laguna Lake Golf Course will be on your left before the Madonna Road intersection. It is an 11-mile, 20-minute drive from the Inn.

Blacklake, between Santa Maria and Pismo Beach, is the Central Coast’s only 27-hole golf resort. Enjoy sparkling water pools and scenic coastal hills, as well as the unspoiled natural beauty of the newest nine, the “Oaks.” Blacklake is conservation conscious, too-the grass is irrigated with recycled water.

For “Preferred Rate Hotel” discounts at Blacklake, inquire at the front desk. From Morro Bay, take Hwy 1 South into San Luis Obispo, 11 miles. Take a right onto US 101 South, and travel 24 miles to Tefft Street in Nipomo. Go right on Tefft, right on Pomeroy Road, drive one mile past a red barn and turn left on Willow Road. The golf course is the second entrance on the right.
